Driving In Europe
If you are planning to drive to Europe you will need to fit headlamp converters and the GB sticker to your vehicle when you arrive. As UK car headlamps are designed for driving on left-hand side of the road and Europeans mostly drive on the right-hand side you will need to adjust your headlamps to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. Part of the Driving in Europe range, our RAC headlamp converters are suited for all UK vehicles to help you do this. Purposefully designed to meet EU standards, with simple to follow instructions and easy to fit to your vehicle, they will direct your headlight beam safely away from oncoming traffic and ensure a safe journey for both you and other road users.
Likewise, if your vehicle has neither the GB symbol nor Euro-symbol on your number plate you must by European law display the GB sticker on the rear of your car when driving in Europe. Failure to do so can result in an on-the-spot fine. Even if you have a Euro-symbol on your car it is still mandatory for some countries outside of Europe for you to display the GB symbol. If in the unfortunate event you are involved in an incident the GB sticker allows the local emergency services to quickly identify your country of origin and will help them give you the appropriate assistance.
Alongside the headlamp converters, as part of the Driving in Europe range, our RAC GB sticker will make sure you have the correct symbol for driving in Europe. Designed specifically to meet the legal requirements of the1949 Road Traffic Convention, all symbols are one to three letters, in capital latin characters, painted in black on a white background in an elliptical form with a minimum height of 80mm and a stroke width of 10mm.
How to position the GB sticker
We include a Euro symbol GB sticker in this pack for application to your registration plate when travelling within Europe. (Please note that when travelling outside Europe, it is a legal requirement to display an appropriate oval-shaped GB sticker.) Vehicles travelling within Europe not displaying the Euro symbol are required by law to display an oval GB sticker.
