Antifreeze and engine coolant play a vital role in the healthy running of your car. The correct mix will protect your radiator from freezing and causing damage in the winter; and will help prevent your radiator overheating in the summer. Antifreeze coolant is designed to work effectively at a 50/50 mix and you should test your level regularly. This can be done quickly and easily with the Maypole antifreeze tester - known as a hydrometer.
Also remember to check the level of your coolant fluid in the markers of your radiator expansion tank (check your vehicle user manual for location). Do this weekly to ensure that your coolant system is not leaking. Be sure to allow your engine to cool before you open your expansion tank or radiator - this a pressurised system and could lead to being exposed to scalding steam.
This antifreeze tester / hydrometer is suitable to check the levels for Methanol and Ethylene Glycol.
