Torches

Every car owner should carry a torch with them in their glove compartment, just in case they break down late at night. A quality torch is an important safety aid, and will be useful when you are hunting for your warning triangle, high visibility gear and other safety equipment. Torches are also useful for performing basic repairs underneath the car, and illuminating dark areas for detailed, fiddly work.

Our selection of torches includes a wide range of sizes and power ratings, from head-mounted torches for working underneath your vehicle, to lower power requiring, but very bright and powerful LED torches and bigger hand-held torches that take standard bulbs.

Whatever kind of torch you decide to keep in your car, be sure to check the battery periodically. As soon as the battery shows signs that it is low on power, replace it immediately. Batteries are prone to leaking if they are left in devices for a long time, and this can damage the contacts and make the battery un-usable.

Key-ring torches that rely on LED lights can last a long time even on a single AAA battery, but handheld torches go through batteries more quickly. One recent innovation is the "solar powered torch" that stores up power during the day and releases it to power the torch when it gets dark. At the RAC, we have a selection of handheld, keyring and LED torches that will suit most motoring needs. We also sell batteries and spare bulbs for both torches and headlamps.
