RAC Car Battery details:
Find the right car battery for your car using our vehicle registration look-up tool, you can also choose to have it fitted by an RAC Patrol.
There are many variables that impact the power requirements of your car battery. The vehicle type, make and model are perhaps the biggest considerations, which is why we've created our vehicle registration lookup tool to help you find the right battery for your car. However, the electronic equipment you use in your car, along with your driving style and the weather conditions can all influence the workload of your battery, so we've selected built a range of car batteries designed to cater to all budget and performance requirements.
Partnering with Varta, Bosch and Lion, RAC car batteries come in three main categories: the RAC Premium Battery, RAC Standard Battery and RAC Economy Battery.
The RAC Premium Car Battery brings with it up to 20% more starting power than standard batteries to help ensure that your ignition is smooth and reliable. It also has proven capabilities in extreme hot or cold driving conditions to keep your car on the move when the weather isn't on your side and 3x the durability of a standard lead acid battery, so it’s reliable for years to come.
The RAC AGM Car Battery is perfectly suited for vehicles that have stop-start technology, providing 50% more starting power than standard batteries. These are recommended with professional fitting only, which makes our fitting service a great way to replace your stop-start battery.
The RAC Standard Bosch Car Battery is a good value performance option with 15% more starting power than standard batteries, making it a suitable choice for cars with standard electrical equipment.
The Lion batteries provide an economic solution for safe starting, and offer dependability and starting power for compact cars and those with moderate convenience features.
Car batteries are an essential but often over looked part of a cars make up. With that in mind, we're going to look at what buying a good car battery entails, answer some frequently asked questions and how the RAC Shop can help you:
How much does a car battery cost?
Like most things, you get what you pay for and never has it been more important to get it right than with a car battery. If you're looking for a reliable budget battery for a compact car with moderate functions, a Lion brand battery will serve you well, with a comprehensive 2 year warranty. A budget friendly battery can cost as little as £34.99 from the RAC Shop, which means that you don't have to compromise on quality. If your needs are more complex, there are options available. Should your car have such functions as Start/Stop Technology, a more substantial EFB or AGM battery will be required. Theses batteries are manufactured by reliable names such as Bosch and Varta and come with a full 5 year warranty for complete for peace of mind. All EFB or AGM batteries are supplied fully fitted by an RAC mechanic on site as standard. The expected price for a EFB or AGM battery would be around £250 including fitting. There are also other premium batteries available that are supplied fully fitted, these can range in price from £100 to £150 depending on suitability. Please use the Reg Checker to make sure the correct battery is supplied for your model of car.
Which car battery do I get?
Buying a car battery can be a daunting task if you're not quite sure what you're looking for. Therefore, we at RAC Shop have tried to make it as easy as possible for you. Simply enter your car's registration into the reg checker and we'll show you what models may be suitable for your car. We will always aim to offer you a variety of choices, ranging in price with a full technical information sheet so you can work out what would be the best option for you.
Should I have the Car Battery fitted or fit it myself?
Here at RAC Shop we would always recommend letting us take the stress out of fitting a car battery. This way, we can make sure everything is correct and as it should be. Correct fitting of a battery is just as important as the battery itself, so we offer the service free of charge to RAC members and from just £30 for non-members. Some batteries such as EFB and AGM variants come with fitting as standard. If however you would still prefer to fit the battery yourself, we offer a comprehensive fitting guide to help you along the way.
How do I charge a car battery?
Over time, car batteries will deteriorate as with all rechargeable batteries. Sometimes we could be in a situation where our battery dies and a quick jump start is needed. If you're a member of the RAC, a call can be made and a mobile mechanic can help you on your way. But if you're not, things can be a little trickier. Most people would use another car and jump leads to get them going, but this isn't always an option if there's no willing participant around. The alternative would be a car battery charger. A portable charger that can be stowed away in the boot of your car until needed. If you're going to buy a car battery charger, always make sure it's suitable for use with your battery and car.
Buying a car battery from RAC Shop should be simple and straight forward. Our aim is to ensure a fully informed decision is made and we will always endeavour to help along the way.
